Story

2 years ago (May 2012) I started trekking up a mountain in Nepal; I didn't reach the top but had to be helicoptered off when I lost strength in my arms & legs, falling over and being unable to stand back up (thank you to the wonderful Nepalese Guides who kept lifting me back up onto my legs).

Within 24 hours I went from walking mountains to being unable to move and was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS), the AMAN variant meaning the axons of the peripheral nerves are damaged and need to regrow so recovery can take 2-5 years, and may be incomplete.

So I am very happy to say I can swim a mile in 57 mins, walk 10 miles in 5 hours (yep there’s a reason why the Charity’s logo is a tortoise) and I can walk up stairs, using a hand rail.....anyone know if there’s handrails up the Ben Nevis trail?

To ‘reclaim the mountains’ on 12th July 2014 I’ll be heading out on the ten mile round trip to walk up Ben Nevis with its 1344m climb....which I reckon will take approx 15 hours (I slow down a bit more on a hill)...... my brother (Alex) has agreed to walk with me (hopefully he won’t need to lift me back onto my legs).

Any encouragement you feel able to offer (sponsorship or good wishes) will be very gratfully received J Thank you!
