Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Piper and I am 3 and a half years old. I suffer from multiple medical conditions and regularly have to go to hospital for investigations, treatment and to see my many doctors. Most of my doctors are in London.
My conditions are:
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome - basically means I am allergic to life.... I can only eat 12 foods without reacting to them. I react to heat and exercise, emotions, hair on toys and many other things. As a result I have to have lots of medications to minimise the reactions but there is always the possibility that I can go into anaphylaxis (a life threatening allergic reaction) with no warning. My mummy and daddy always carry my emergency bag where ever we go so if I need extra piriton or my epipens they can give them to me straight away.
Immune Deficiency - My body cannot fight infections as well as most people. I am on regular prophylactic antibiotics.
Floppy airways - my airways did not develop as well as most people so they are floppy. This means I get more chest infections and sometimes have difficulty clearing mucus from my lungs
Coeliac disease - My body thinks that gluten (contained in wheat, barley, rye and oats) is 'poisonous' and in trying to get rid of it my immune system attacks my gut. The only treatment is to not eat any gluten containing products. Even a crumb can be really detrimental to me.
We were really lucky that my mummy and daddy learnt about the Camberwell Ronald McDonald House by Kings hospital. They were really kind and allowed us to stay in August when I had lots of appointments and we were in London for 4 days of tests. The people in the house were really kind and there were lots of toys to play with. Mummy and daddy didn't have to pay to stay there which they were really grateful for. We want to raise some money for them as they rely solely on donations. Without these donation families like us wouldn't be able to stay nor would the other parents whose children are in hospital.
To raise money I am doing a run, bike/scoot and treasure hunt with my friends. It is so good to be doing something so fun and raise money for such a good cause. Of course mummy and daddy will have to give me medicine before hand to reduce the risk of reacting but I am determined to do this!!
