One in 700 children across the world is born with a cleft lip and palate. This is a major problem within developing countries with thousands of children born with a cleft lip.

Often, these children cannot eat, smile or speak properly and as they grow up cannot attend school or hold a job. Their lives are filled with shame and isolation because they are poor — too poor to pay for a simple surgery that has been around for decades.
