To relieve the suffering of children affected by the radiation explosion from the Nuclear Plant at Chernobyl. To provide family placements for children/orphans, from the Mogilev and Gomel regions of Belarus, for at least one month each year and to meet the full costs of these visits, which will include optical, dental and health checks, and lots of tender loving care.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit ourJustGiving page.

We are rasing money to give respite to children affected by the Chernobyl disaster of 1986.  We recently visited families in one of the most contaminated areas of Belarus.  We met exhausted mothers, haggard and grey, desperately trying to care for their families in wooden houses with no running water or indoor toilets.  They feel deserted, hopeless and disempowered.  We give hope to the whole family, providing respite each summer for children, helping families with clothing, vitamins, toothpaste and vegetable seeds.  They know that someone cares and is interested in their lives.

The little girl in the picture lives in a drafty wooden house with no running water, a toilet in a wooden shack at the bottom of their vegetable garden.  She is one of three little girls with a dad who is a forrester and a mum who just tries to keep going.  The children are pale and cough, in the summer we will bring the little girl for a month's respite in Helpston and soon her little sisters will be old enough to come too.  I think of her returning with her bulging suitcase and her mother's face when she realises that some of the stress has been lifted from her life.

We desperately need your help to make this possible. Throughout the year we raise money through different methods, the children of Belarus are so grateful for your support in changing their lives.
