We fund prostate cancer research to give men a better chance to beat cancer

Story

Thank you for visiting the HMS CHIDDINGFOLD 'JustGiving' online sponsorship page. A new update is posted below 12 Aug 2011.

Our objective is to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer for men within the Royal Navy and raise as much money as possible for Prostate Cancer research. To meet this objective the crew of HMS Chiddingfold have undertaken the feat of simulating the entire journey home using our rowing, cycling and running machine.

The Challenge. There are approximately 6,200 miles to achieve in 35 days. We are simulating a cycle and run across the Middle-East from Bahrain to Aqaba in Jordan. From Aqaba, we row through the Suez Canal, across the Mediterranean through the Straits of Gibraltar to Faro in Portugal. From Faro we cycle and run through Spain and France to Cherbourg where we commence the final leg home and row back to Portsmouth.

Why? Prostate cancer research needs funding and with increased awareness and screening, more men can be diagnosed and treated early. The ‘Chiddingfold Run, Ride, Row Home Challenge’, we hope, shall contribute to helping this very worthy cause. it is a challenge we simply cannot fail.

Update. We are now 32 days into the challenge with 2 1/2 sea days to complete the epic 6200 mile RRRC. The Med and the Atlantic have been relativelykind to us. Thankfully we were able to purchase a new cycle machine and we are 94% complete in total. This leaves us with 400 miles (just over 600 km) to complete the challenge. There is still the 'Bay of Biscay' and the 'English Channel' to face but hopefully the weather will hold out and make it less uncomfortable for us to complete the challenge. WE ARE GOING TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER (SO FAR AS I AM AWARE) BEEN DONE BEFORE. Thank you for any donation to Prostate Cancer, it WILL make a difference. The website will continue to be live for 6-7 weeks post our 'homecoming' but more importantly post the success of achieving the challenge. Your support is, and will continue to be, hugely appreciated.
