Breast Cancer Care - Ribbon Walk 2009 Petworth House & South Downs · 27 June 2009 ·
Sarah suggested a walk on the South Downs, and I couldn't resist!
But since it's only 32km (as opposed to trailwalkers 100km last year), and I've been itching to get a pair of these http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/, I decided to challenge myself to do the distance in a brand new pair. My aching calves and heels after the first training walk with Sarah indicate it's definately going to require a healthy dose of mind-over-matter! Oh, and the other challenge will be wearing bright pink for 10 hours straight - it may scar me forever!
Report on hobbit feet so far:
* really really really comfy
* really fun to walk in, they feel great, and they start some great conversations with strangers
* they mean you tread far more gently than you do with trainers or hiking boots, and as a result your knees get less strain ... but I think still I need to adjust more as my heels start to hurt after a while
* you definately use different muscles - more calves, less thighs
* stepping in doggy doo becomes A LOT more personal
Anything that you're able to donate will be HIGHLY appreciated! I know it's a tough year, so please don't feel obliged. However, to join Sarah in her bribary encouragement, the top three donations get home-made brownies :)

(FYI: Donating through Justgiving is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Breast Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.)
