Story
Thanks for taking time to visit the 1st Horringer Scout Group JustGiving page.
1st Horringer Scout Group is one of the most successful groups in our District. The group consists of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Presently we have over 75 members and as a whole we provide 500+ hrs of voluntary activities per year for children between 6yrs - 14yrs old. We constantly run at full capacity with an ever-growing waiting list.
The existing scout hut was donated to the scout group over 30 years ago, but it is cramped and inadequate for our needs. The wooden hut structure is suffering from serious woodworm, rot and general decay and sadly as a result the hut is now beyond economical repair and is not quite large enough for the growing needs of the group.
Our objective is to replace both the old Scout Hut and storage shipping container with a ‘Low Carbon Footprint’ Sustainable single storey building, using ‘Strawbale Construction Techniques’
This project represents a bold and exciting opportunity to go well beyond simply replacing one building like-for-like. This sustainable new build project would offer a wealth of advantages to the primary group and be inclusive of the wider community. As well as providing an attractive and bespoke facility that would add something to the local community.
• Natural / Sustainable Building
• Bespoke design to meet the need of the group
• Low carbon footprint using locally sourced materials
• Built on-site and built with community help
• Educational - assist with children eco / green knowledge
• Synergy with Scout Association on programme zones
Along with securing agency funding, the group will participate in a number of fun activities including sponsored hikes, fete stalls, car parking, bag packing and car washing to name but a few, to help raise funds.
