On many occasions dedicated staff from across our hospitals go above and beyond expectations, providing care that makes patients or relatives want to give something back.

Story

Whilst love is lingering in the air from Valentine's Day back our an appeal for special ‘wedding boxes’.

A ward sister at Scunthorpe hospital has made a wish for the boxes to be
created which will be used for when couples get married at short notice in hospital.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust’s charity, the
Health Tree Foundation, has launched this romantic appeal in the run up to
February 19 and is calling on the public to make a donation.

Inside the boxes will be bunting, artificial flowers, balloons, confetti,
champagne flutes, a cd player, table cloths, a cake stand and wedding cards.

A donation of £2 would pay for some confetti; £15 would pay for champagne
flutes for the happy couple and £60 would pay for beautiful silk artificial
flowers.

The Health Tree Foundation is hoping to raise enough money to buy
supplies for a wedding box at Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana, Princess
of Wales Hospital.

Sister Julieann Woollas, who works on ward 18 at Scunthorpe hospital,
said: “As the ceremonies are sometimes quite spontaneous there is not always
time to get all the supplies needed to create the right environment.”

She added: “It is such a special occasion for a bride and groom so we
want to be able to make it feel more like a wedding.”

Unfortunately we cannot accept gifts in kind due to infection control.

Fundraising coordinator for The Health Tree Foundation Alice Weaver said:
“We are delighted Julieann came to us with this wish. With the support of the
public we hope to turn her wish into a reality.

“Staff on the wards do from time to time have requests from patients
wanting to get married while they are in hospital. They endeavour to make the
ceremony as memorable as possible. Having a wedding box available to decorate
the room will make it so much easier.”
