‘The Spare Tyres’ otherwise known as the HSBC Birmingham Commercial Centre are participating in a HSBC regional cycling challenge, this involves cycling 87 miles over a 6 hour period – average speed of 15mph required! This is the official ‘Tour de Midlands’ challenge, whereby each team participating are working towards a 700 mile challenge!

 

This challenge, most importantly is to raise at least £500 for our two chosen charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Ronald McDonald House Charity.

 

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that supports those with cancer and their families. This is done through healthcare, financial support and providing information and support.

 

Healthcare professionals, including Macmillan Nurses are there to offer one-to-one support when symptoms and side effects of cancer become too hard to bear.

 

There are information and support centres throughout the UK, including mobile centres. Information booklets and online support is also available.

 

Financial support is available for those who need it; Macmillan have benefit advisors, financial guides and useful publications. There is always somebody to talk through what help is available.

 

There is so much that Macmillan Cancer Support do and really are a great charity and organisation that help thousands!

 

Ronald Mc Donald House Charity is an independent charity that provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation at hospitals across the UK, enabling families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life.

 

There are currently 15 Ronald McDonald Houses and over 25 sets of Family Rooms across the UK, all just a stone’s throw from the children’s ward. Together, they provide more than 450 rooms for families each night of the year.

Many families travel miles from home so that their child can receive expert medical care from specialist children’s hospitals across the UK. Often, children have to remain in hospital for months at a time, so for the families, staying close to their child can be a struggle. Without a local Ronald McDonald House, many parents have to sleep on a chair by their child’s bed, on a pull down bed if this is available, or pay vast sums of money for hotel accommodation.

Ronald McDonald House Charities is determined to help as many of these families as possible by continuing to run our Houses, and by opening new Houses where there is a need.
