Story

Update Tuesday 27th April
I've now done the marathon! What a day! The atmosphere was great from start to finish. It is a long way, and I have to say that I am not moving that freely. It was well worth it, for the challenge, for the support and interest of so many different people. I have learned a huge amount and am incredibly grateful. Not only that but it has also given our 15th Birthday Appeal a great start. I'll put up a longer post about the experience on the GYFC website for those of you who may be interested. BTW my time was 4.37 which I am pleased with.

Update Friday 23rd April:
I'm now registered and I have my number, 50632, and am all set. You can see Rachel Hinga and myself in the picture at the GYFC drop in yesterday, the kids there were great giving lots of encouragement, once they had got over the shock - I am sure they think I am a pensioner!  I am  on the Red Start,
(somewhere near the back). Our route comes out of Greenwich Park and then goes down Vanbrugh Park, Charlton Park Road through Charlton Village and  merges with the rest of the runners near the Woolwich Barracks.
Can I just thank all you guys who have sponsored me and have sent messages of encouragement (!). A big thank you to Kristian at the Kidbrooke David Lloyd Centre who has donated a 5 month membership to help with my training and Chris Barber at Advance Physiotherapy without whom I would definitely not be running. Time now for a bit of relaxation....!!!

Thanks for visiting this page. I’m running my first ever Marathon to raise money for Greenwich Youth for Christ and its work with young people.  It’s our 15th Birthday this year and this run is a part of our appeal to raise money across the year to develop the work of Greenwich YFC.

This is a very significant time in the development of Greenwich Youth for Christ, along with many other charities this is a challenging period. We’re a small local charity, with a brilliant team of staff and volunteers, every donation that we receive will go directly to our work.  Find out more about what we do at www.greenwichyfc.org.uk  (plenty of changes to the website on their way…)

About three years ago we applied for a Silver Bond place and here it is! Personally, I have some doubts as to whether this is such bright idea taking up marathon running at all, it seems a long way! However, I have come to terms with being overtaken by a Rhino,  Pepperami or Mr Whippy but we shall see.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks for looking! So please dig deep and donate now!
