Story

To relieve poverty in Haiti and the UK.

originally, the hunger challenge was going to be organised to raise funds to help homeless people in the UK. However, as HOPE worldwide are an international poverty relief charity, and as the Haiti disaster has been on an unprecedented scale, HOPE worldwide will be splitting the funds raised between their original objective and their Haiti relief efforts - 50% each.

In the UK, 23% of the population (13.5 million people) are considered to be living in poverty*. HOPE worldwide work with some of those considered to be most at disadvantage in the UK - homeless people, drug and alcohol abusers and ex-offenders.

On 13 January, a 7 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti. The whole country has experienced extreme suffering as a result. HOPE worldwide have been working on the ground providing emergency support - supplying food, water and medical help.

The hunger challenge will take place on 27 May 2010. Volunteers will go without food for 24 hours in solidarity with all those around the world that struggle to get a decent daily meal. They will raise sponsorship for their sacrifice which will help those detailed above. Please support the hunger challenge and help to relieve the suffering of others.
