Story
Nope, I've never done anything like this before and, given my sporting prowess, there's probably a reason for it.
So this is the deal:
- 13.1 miles around London parks, probably in the rain, with knees that simply don't function.
No really, it turns out I have Iliotibial band friction syndrome (runners knee), so I fully anticipate being incapacitated for the following few days, certainly hobbling quite drastically, and necking the ibuprofen. Still, all for a good cause, eh? (gulp)
Why, bone cancer trust? I think I was ten when I first heard about cancer. Gareth was my age and he lived for less than another 2years. I can't say I that I really understood what a bone marrow transplant was back then and twenty years on I'm not sure I can quite fathom it today - or moreover what it was like for his parents. He was, in the language of the day, my 2nd best friend and although the number of similar stories keep mounting up over the years and his memory fades, it still has a hold on me.
So do please help me, it'd mean a lot to a lot of people, and having your support, might, just might, propell me through the finishing line - I'll be delighted to finish at a walking pace because of the above (any knee advice, most welcome).
Diolch o galon/ cheers/ gracias
