At Worldwide Veterinary Service (WVS) we champion animal welfare around the world and create sustainable change. We send vets where they are needed most, provide expert veterinary training in hard-to-reach places, and ship urgent aid supplies worldwide, every day of the year.

Story

Hi

I am a Internal Medicine Clinician working at Davies Veterinary Specialists and will be joining the Mission Rabies Team in September this year with the aim of vaccinating 50,000 street dogs in one month. This is the start of a 3 year project.

It is estimated ever hour one child in India dies from Rabies, 24 children in 24 hours. The virus is usually contracted from a dog bite. Both myself and the staff at Davies Veterinary Specialists are proud the practice will be assisting in a project by purchasing the first 50,000 vaccines.

What is Mission Rabies?

Working with the Dog Trust , the Worldwide Veterinary Service have created  'Mission Rabies' . The project aims to reduce the incidents of Rabies in India, which is considered a global hotspot for the disease. The project is also supported by a number of organisations including Davies Veterinary Specialists, BSAVA and WSAVA.

Your donations  will be able to sustain this project over a minimium of 3 years ( target 3 million pounds)

Mission Rabies Goals
1. Setting up the country’s first India National Rabies Network – supplying cheap, effective vaccines nationwide. Recording who gives it, where and to how many dogs. We can then start mapping the distribution of the protection available.

2. Running surgical training programmes in rabies danger zones. Teaching local vets the best field techniques in dog population and vaccination control.

3. Raising funds to vaccinate 2 million dogs in the key hotspot areas of India in the next 3 years.

Currently for every pound donated we can purchase vaccinations for 4 dogs.
