We support young people fighting cancer to live their best life

Story

Teens have been very supportive to myself and my late son Matthew. Teens would regularly offer respite opportunities to him although he regularly turned those offers down believing others were more worthy and in need of help. Debbie and Jodie were kindly very persistent and eventually he agreed to go on a very special trip organised by Debbie to Chelsea which were his team. We had a very special day at Chelsea’s training ground and subsequently a trip to a match. He was absolutely blown away by both trips and it helped him forget for two special moments how poorly he actually was. He was a very proud boy who thought the help was only for disabled people which he didn’t consider he was. I truly believe he had a better understanding what the support meant following his trips.

I will be attempting to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats on a bike purchased by Matty which means he will be with me all the way

This is such an important charity that picks up the pieces where the big charities fall short. The personal touch is so important and the opportunity to get respite is hugely important. The house that we are hoping to fund a room for will be Mattys legacy and will help the family feel his short but precious life was not in vain. He was a very special boy who always wanted to help others and put them first. I believe he will be looking down with a smile on his face.

Thanks

Ian

Teens Unite is the only charity in the UK to provide on-going support to 13-24 year olds fighting cancer from diagnosis through to post-remission. Seven young people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK and Teens Unite brings them together through workshops and activities so they can spend valuable time with others their age in a similar situation to themselves. The charity helps to rebuild the confidence and self-esteem of those it supports and prevents feelings of isolation during what can be a long and lonely battle.
