We work to prevent and treat neglected infectious diseases through strengthening impactful and comprehensive health programmes in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2018-19 alone, we provided 93.2 million treatments against parasitic worm infections.

Story

Earlier this year, we learned about Effective Altruism, a worldwide movement about doing good better through evidence and reason. It turns out the most effective charities can be nearly orders of magnitude as cost-effective as other charities. We found them to be an outstanding opportunity to do good—and through Project ImpactfulGiving, we hope to spread the message of Effective Giving as much as possible.

SCI's deworming program is one of the most cost-effective ways we can provide support to poverty-stricken areas, with an estimated 9.9x the impact-per-dollar as direct cash donations to regions with similar average wage.

Of all the global charities, we found SCI's deworming program to be one of the most cost-effective ways we can provide support to poverty-stricken areas. According to charity evaluator GiveWell, it is estimated to have 9.9x the impact-per-dollar as direct cash transfers to regions with similar average wage.
Deworming can help save lives and lead to significant improvements in nutrition, cognition, school participation and future earnings— $100 towards deworming is estimated to provide 13.9 years of additional schooling and lead to $1100 in additional income across recipients' lives!

It costs just US$0.40 to deworm a child—we appreciate contributions of any size!
