Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in remembrance of Michael John Duriez.

Mike died surrounded by his loved ones on Monday 16th May 2022. He had suffered a massive stroke three weeks earlier which left him hospitalised and dependent upon nurses for his every need. In the end it was a mercy that death came relatively quickly, as he would have hated to carry on in such a diminished state.

During Mike's last days the memory of the Grenfell Tower fire played on his mind. In his muddled state Mike expressed a sense of guilt that he had not done more to stop this terrible tragedy. We assured him that there was little, if anything he could have done but he was adamant he could have intervened to prevent this tragedy from taking place. Although his guilt was misplaced we were touched that this event had so clearly moved him and so we want to respond to this by raising money for the Grenfell Foundation.

The Grenfell Foundation was set up at the request of some survivors and bereaved families following the Grenfell Tower fire on 14 June 2017. This charitable foundation provides independent support and advocacy for the former residents of Grenfell Tower and the bereaved families and dependents.
