Story

Justgiving Appeal: Closed

This Justgiving Appeal has now closed but World Land Trust (WLT) is still raising funds on our website to create vital wildlife corridors in India to protect flagship species, like the Asian Elephant and endangered Tiger.
Find out more about the project
Fundraising has been a great success, with two major events: in 2010 over  £100,000 was raised through the Elephant Family's Elephant Parade and in 2011 over $150,000 was raised through Emeralds for Elephants project.
Yet land prices in India are escalating at an alarming rate due to the country’s population boom and spiralling development. WLT and our partners are working tirelessly to protect more land for the safety of India’s people and wildlife.
Please help support this project today
The project
World Land Trust (WLT) is working with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to safeguard traditional migration routes for Indian elephants and many other species of endangered wildlife, including tiger. The aim is to create wildlife corridors that connect one protected area with another, allowing India’s species to roam in search of food and breeding partners, as well as to avoid conflict with people.
We are now working to secure a third wildlife corridor that will connect the Ramnagar Forest Reserve to the famous Corbett National Park and onwards to the vast Himalayan mountain range. This project, based in the northern state of Uttarakhand, will extend the Corbett Tiger reserve and provide refuge for Elephants, Tigers, Sambar (deer), Indian Marsh Crocodile, and over 575 species of bird.
This project is also helping to protect local people; WTI are working with a community that has been devastated by Tiger attacks that killed seven people from the same village between 2010 and 2011. .
Please support this appeal and help protect India’s people and threatened species, such as Asian elephants and endangered tigers.
