I am raising money on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my Granddad, John Norris. 

Up until his passing, Dementia had robbed my Granddad of his ability to communicate, to perform daily tasks and had taken away his freedom of choice. The effect this had on our family was heartbreaking; it was like watching our Dad/Granddad disappear and knowing there was nothing we could do about it. 

The disease might hide the person underneath, but there is still a person who needs love and attention, and I cannot give enough praise to my Mum and the carers who provided my Granddad with love and warmth until the end. 

In memory of my granddad, I will be taking part in the Slateman Half Triathlon, my first ever Half Triathlon. This consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a  56 mile bike and a 13.1 run, all at the foot of Snowdon! I will be taking part in this gruelling event on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Alzheimer’s Society strives to help people living with dementia in the UK to achieve the best possible quality of life, as well as providing support and assistance to families and carers.

The Alzheimer's Society also works with people with dementia and their carers to decide which research projects into the treatment and possible cure of the condition are most worth funding. By sponsoring ground-breaking research, the society hopes to continually improve current dementia treatments and ultimately to eradicate the condition through prevention and cure.
