Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival · 25 June 2017

NPUK is dedicated to making a positive difference to the lives of people affected by Niemann-Pick diseases and their families. Our vision is a world where those affected can meaningfully participate in society, reach their full potential and achieve the best possible quality of life.

Story

We are raising money for a charity that will help a truly inspirational young boy called Joshua from Milton Keynes.

To look at him you would think he is a normal 10 year old boy, except Joshua is not like every other 10 year old. He has been living with Niemann-Pick Disease Type C since he was a baby, an extremely rare genetic terminal disease.

For Joshua this means a life of doctors, hospitals, medication but sadly no cure.

At the age of 10 Joshua already recognises the symptoms of his disease. Gradually more and more of the NPC symptoms will appear throughout Joshua's life they include; difficulty with upward and downward eye movements, clumsiness, problems in walking, sudden loss of muscle tone which leads to falls, tremors, seizures, progressive intellectual decline leading to dementia!!!

I cannot comprehend how this bright, happy and extremely brave young man will one day lose his ability to walk, talk, swallow and sadly forget who his mummy, daddy and little sister are.

So this is why we have entered the Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival. I would like to raise as much money as possible but even more, to raise awareness of this cruel disease. It would be a dream if a cure was found for Joshua in his lifetime and to be able to watch him grow old.

Please donate as much as you can for Joshua and all the other children living with Niemann Pick Disease who are dreaming for a cure.
