We provide support and accessible transport to people with mobility issues in RBWM

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The JustGiving is for two causes people2places, which is a charity supported by my football team Bray Beavers that helps people with mobility and isolation issues be able get around and attend days out or events to combat the feelings of isolation, in addition to this charity I will also be splitting it with Macmillan, a charity close to mine and a lot of friends due to loss of unique individuals.

Ben and Charlie, left us way to earlier due to a completely unfair disease in Cancer,  I will never forget what Donna, said to all Charlie's pals, "Lads if you are ever worried about anything, don't be all manly get it checked out", so if you can't give in these times of rising living costs don't worry, but fellas always check yourself out and ladies, please ask your fella twice,  as we tend to ignore any pains,  the first time you ask us.

So How did this happen?

During the COVID summers and lockdowns on a warm night in September after another lovely swim in 2020, Rowan says to me, let’s do an Ironman, let's do Ironman Cork, other folks are doing it. Well, he twisted my rubber arm and now I have spent 2 years trying to get ready for it.  Training started with a hiccup called COVID in December of 2020 then had an operation that basically meant I began training in April for the event in August 2021, thankfully it got cancelled even though I was training a lot.

Move on to training for 2022, I target a marathon at a 4.5 hrs time in April to build confidence I can do this thing.  Yet again, another hiccup December 22nd twist my ankle, no running of for up to six weeks, so lots of swimming and bike after 3 weeks.   Then get recovered and now bust my shoulder, I can run, but no swimming.  The luck I have had....   Now we get into some competition after weeks of long slow running.  I smash out a half marathon in PB time by 15 minutes.  wow, how did that happen.  The PB start falling on every event, so my training is good including a sub 4 hr marathon.  Absolutely buzzing, I become a centurion, YEY!!!.......  Then COVID hits 4.5 weeks before Cork.  So now I am in a middle ground, where I am physically fit, but have Post COVID recovery.   I will do it through, and I know I can.

I am sure when I am feeling it on that run after the 112 miles on the bike, I will probably think of Ben saying something in an appropriately sarcastic tone, “get a wiggle on, the pub closes at 11pm" or something to that note and Charlie to be honest would be in the Pub, saying he'll get when get gets here.......
