Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
One in three people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime and one in four will die from the disease. We all know someone or a family who have been affected by this tragic disease.
I am undertaking two exciting challenges to raise money for a cause that is close to my heart:
Paris Roubaix 11th June - This was a gruelling and legendary 260km bike ride from just outside Paris to Roubaix. This famous ride is a "warm up" event for the professional Tour de France riders. It is commonly referred to as "the hellish cobbles of the North" as there are just under 60km across cobbles (ouch!).
As a team, including my brother Michael, we encountered and overcame numerous obstacles in tremendous team spirit (special mention to the aussie boys, Ben and my close friend The Great White Shark, who waited for hours at the finishing line to cheer us home - true gentlemen). There were flat tyres, a broken chain for Michael (who will tell you it was because he was cycling so fast), some impressive crashes from Berj(broken rib- still climbing Kili though-legend), The Great White Shark Chris (comical fall into irrigation ditch) and myself (dodgy collision with my brother,again-stewards still enquiring), dehydration, exhaustion, massive blood blisters (Kat and I had some beauties but The Wimp was in a league of his own), angry French cyclists (not all but the majority), and all in the blistering heat.
Thanks to all those involved in this memorable experience. Especially Mr Alan "Chauffeur" Galley and Waterboy Mad Dog Cubitt who ensured we had a friendly face, words of encouragment, and everything we needed at each check point-the most important and valuable guys in the team. My training partner Pilgrim who made the hours of training in the saddle such fun and the man just keeps on going. Michael "Chain Braker Pistons" Cradock who looked after his little bro all day. Finally, a special mention to a living legend and special friend named " The Wimp" who completed the ride for the second time, this time with a chest infection. I had a nasty crash a week prior to the event and was advised not to get back on my bike and attempt the ride. His email inspired me to question just how much the money raised by you good people for Cancer Research meant to me.
I completed the ride in 14 hours and 20 minutes and it was the most emotional and proudest moment of my life thus far.
Kilimanjaro 18th-24th July- - One of the Seven summits in the world, the tallest mountain in Africa, and the highest free standing mountain in the world. At 5895m high need I say more?!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you for your generosity and please spread the word.
