Everest - North Col · 2 May 2009

In remote rural areas of Africa and Asia, access to a decent education is the key to a better future. Our funds aim to improve the infrastructure to equip rural children to break out of the cycle of poverty. We build and refurbish classrooms, washrooms, water tanks and libraries. Help us build more!

Story

Thanks very much for logging in to sponsor me!

As you know, I  summitted  Everest  in the early hours of 22 May 2009.  By doing so, I hope to raise enough money for AVF (AV Foundation) to build 2 new classrooms for a primary school in Pachok, which lies in the foothills of the Himalayas.   AVF is a great charity.  It is affiliated to Africa & Asia Venture, the gap year volunteering company and supports schools in some of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa & Latin America.

AVF have agreed that 50% of the proceeds from this fundraising will go towards the costs of the climb up to a limit of £12,000.  Thereafter all funds will go to AVF towards the classrooms at St Josephs Middle School in Pachok.  These new classrooms will enable the school to upgrade to a secondary school and so enable many more children to be educated locally, rather than have to go away to a boarding school, which parents cannot afford.

Thank you again!
