Sadly last year my Grandad passed away from Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis. My Grandad passed away around 18 months later from when he was diagnosed, he was trapped in a failing body unable to talk, swallow and eventually breath, there is no cure for MND.

I am running my first half marathon to raise awareness of MND, as before my Grandad was diagnosed I was not that familiar with this disease and to put more money into research and care.

I always wonder when I donate to charities how the money will make a difference, for MND...

£100 funds laboratory equipment for two days’ vital research into finding out the causes of MND

£550 could fund a tablet device with communication software, giving the ability to communicate with loved ones

£1000 will pay for detailed analysis of the DNA of someone with MND to help us better understand the causes of the disease

I hope that you will support me in this challenge and one day some way is found to slow down or better yet cure MND.
