NYC Runs Queens Marathon · 26 March 2017

We reach into the community to find role models (14-18) who have used sport to come through adversity - social, physical or learning difficulties. They have all moved from ‘victim to survivor’. We salute each of them and this programme is a tribute to their fortitude.

Story

On 26th March I will be running the NYC Runs Queens Marathon in aid of the amazing and unique charity, Adversity Awards.

Adversity Awards reach into the community to find role models (14-18) who have used sport to come through adversity - social, physical or learning difficulties. They have all moved from ‘victim to survivor’. Adversity Awards salutes each of them and this programme is a tribute to their fortitude.

Any money donated will go towards honouring these incredible young people and will help to develop the programme further. Adversity Awards is only a small charity, but with your help it could become something big. Every penny is gratefully appreciated.

After an 8 year hiatus I will be returning to the marathon fraternity to do the third leg of my Seven Continent Marathon Challenge - London (2007) and Seoul (2009) being the previous runs I've completed.

I might be advancing in years, have far less natural fitness and am way more injury prone. But I'm wiser AKA I've tried to train properly this time. I won't just run 10k then turn up with a banana and hope for the best (2007), or eat a whole bread bowl of fettuccine and then the bread bowl an hour before the marathon (2009).

Training has been difficult, I'm not going lie. I'm not going to say "I'm running a marathon, I must be crazy!" like I see so often. Being crazy would be trying to run a marathon while on fire or something. It's a very tough physical challenge that is hard to fit around a full-time job. I've had and continue to have multiple injuries but as The Rock said in his WrestleMania 17 interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Jim Ross:

"The fact of the matter is this is. I will give you every drop of sweat. Every drop of blood. Every ounce of energy I have. Win, lose, or draw. You are going to get the absolute best."

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page and please give anything you can.
