We are raising money for Shift.ms a web based charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). They provide an online community and support network as well as linking with MS researchers for mutual benefit.
The reason we are involved with this charity is because Emma (Leanne's sister) was recently diagnosed with MS and Shift.ms has provided a much needed source of information and support. Please take a moment and read what Emma has to say:
"In April of this year, and at 27 years old I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS). A diagnosis that knocked me sideways. I looked in various places for information and support as I knew nothing about, and no-one with MS. This was no mean feat and I really struggled to find anything positive or inspiring, it was very confusing and also a little scary if I'm honest. Then I came across Shift.ms.
Shift.ms was set up by George Pepper, a young guy from Leeds, also with RRMS. He too, felt that there was very little support available for young people diagnosed with the disease, despite it being the most common neurological disorder diagnosed in 20-30 year olds. He set up Shift.ms under the construct of a social networking site where people (of any age!) could 'meet', make friends, talk and offer support to each other through the sometimes scary and often confusing world of MS!!!
In addition to the social aspect of shift, it also provides access to up-to-date research into MS treatments and expert advice on topics such as emotional issues, sex, relationships and practical advice for living with the disease.
Shift.ms has been a godsend to me, and thousands of other people from all over the world who have MS and importantly for friends and family of MSer's!
By raising money through the Great North Run, the site can continue to provide an invaluable resource to those young (and young at heart!!) who are affected by MS. Please dig deep and help raise money for this incredible organisation!!!"
