London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·

The Dockland Settlements has been supporting vulnerable, lonely or disadvantaged people since 1894. Currently we run three community centres, two pre and after-school playcare services and a food bank. We support our local communities but our focus is on the most vulnerable & isolated.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I have not raised any sponsorship via my running for over 5 years, because I know how easily 'charity fatigue' can set in, but I agreed to help Dockland Settlements (a small London based charity that is a client of LGT Vestra's) once I realised that they support local communities in boroughs such as Newham, Southwark, and Tower Hamlets. Having lived in Tower Hamlets for a while, I know how tough it can be for families living there and the centres that DS runs do make a really big difference. Part of their focus is on childcare (to take the pressure off working Parents), but they also provide a variety of sports for people with disabilities, as well as activities for elderly people to help tackle feelings of isolation and loneliness.

This is a small charity but it is a worthy cause!

It may also help to know that their admin costs are less than 7p per pound of the monies that they receive.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
