Story

4 months ago I wasn't a cyclist...

But now I guess I am!

Like a lot of these challenges it starts as an idea which in my case was my Dad asking me and Dan if we wanted to enter a cycling event riding from London to Paris.  For Dad this wasn't that big a challenge as he is a keen cyclist and is as fit as a butchers dog! (He's 71 by the way)

For Dan and I it will be a different story as neither of us owned a bike up until a few months ago and hadn't ridden one since our teens.

Part of the reason we have signed up is to share quality time with Dad doing something he loves, but also to challenge ourselves and create memories.

The other reason we have signed up is because "Lifes too short". It's an overused phrase but was all too true for my family when my wife Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago.  The first 12 months were all about surgery, treatment, hospital appointments, side effects, anxiety, worry, stress & tears, not really leaving time for much else.

Since then the scars have started to heal physically, but mentally they are still sore.  We are living our new normal, and what was our present for 2 years is slowly becoming our past.

Sarah has been one of the lucky ones, but needed to draw on all of her inner strength to get through it.  She was supported exceptionally by a network of close family and friends and a few charities locally.

In particular B.U.S.T were excellent hence why I want to try and raise some money for them.

If you are anything like me you probably recieve sponsorship requests on a weekly basis. Some you get round to supporting, some you accidently forget and some you say enoughs enough, I can't afford it at the moment.

All 3 are fine but personally I always feel much better about myself once I've donated. Once the monies gone it is soon forgotten.
