In September 2017 my son Niall, aged 12, was diagnosed with a choroidal melanoma in his right eye. We had two options; proton beam therapy or the removal of his eye. After two operations, Niall received treatment at Clatterbridge in October, just 4 weeks after diagnosis. Throughout everything he has gone through, Niall has remained positive and determined to “kick its arse”, he has shown unbelievable strength of character and makes me continually proud.
The staff in the cyclotron team were beyond amazing, they didn’t just put Nialls mind at rest, they supported us as a family, wrapping their arms around us and providing hugs and tissues whenever we needed them.
Clatterbridge is the only site in the UK which provides Proton Beam facilities which can be used to treat the eye, without the cyclotron machine and phenomenal staff, the outcome of Nialls diagnosis would be very different.
Doing this skydive, gives me the opportunity to try and show my enormous gratitude to a team of people who looked after my little boy. As a mum your job is to keep your children safe, when I was told that Niall had cancer it was beyond my control, I felt totally helpless and had to put all of my faith in the staff and technology available at Clatterbridge.
So please support this amazing cause and donate what you can in sponsorship, as on Sunday 25th March I will be doing a tandem 10000ft skydive.
