So at 43 years of age it's about time I started to think of others rather than just myself, family and friends (no comment please Lisa)......I have decided to don the spandex, put my running shoes on and take on the challenge of the 2015 London Marathon.

I have always been a keen runner at shorter distances but after 'goading' my brother into starting his own fitness journey a couple of years back, he eventually got his revenge by sneakily getting me to agree to the marathon after he had completed his first one (2014).

The family went to watch him run and then met up afterwards for a few drinks to celebrate. What can I say, Liverpool had just beaten Manchester City 3-2 and were on the way to winning the league for the first time in 20+ years.  I was surrounded by my family outside the Dickins Inn pub at St Katherines dock where the weather was beautiful, and the Magners was flowing. After mentioning how proud we all were that he had completed the 26 miles without keeling over he then challenged me to participate in the following year. In front of all the family, I of course said yes, thinking that he would forget about it the next day and I could continue hugging my mattress on Saturday and Sunday mornings. But no......he called me the following Monday, sent me the forms and that was it.....no more excuses.

In the end Liverpool didn't win the league, and the hangover reminded me that drinking too much is not very clever.....especially when you agree to things that on hindsight need a little more thought.

But I guess on the other hand, we all have to do things sometimes in life that require dedication and be prepared to push ourselves to the limits.....and being honest it is something I have always wanted to do.  I know that it will make my two beautiful girls very proud of their Daddy!!

The choice of charity is a local hospice that does tremondous work for the local community and have looked after many of our loved ones at that time in life when heaven (or the trap door) is about to open.  We have all lost many loved ones and to support such a great institution is the very least I can do in the hope of helping others, albeit in a small way.

So here goes......the cigarettes have gone and the alcohol will be severely restricted for the next couple of months.

So please, please think about digging deep and helping me to raise cash for this fantastic charity.  I am not one of those people that come round with a new begging bowl each year, so feel free to give generously with the knowledge that my word is my bond and you will not be harassed again for future fundraising activites from this boy.

This is a great chance for you to show me how much you like me.....and the more I raise,  the better my chances of securing a 'room with a view' in the hospice when I get to that time of life.

Thank you very much for reading this and please pass this on to anyone who knows me and would like to donate.
