Story

We, the parents and friends of children in reception class at Priory School in Edgbaston are skydiving for two charities close to our hearts!

Our skydive will take place on Saturday 26/07/2014 at Redlands Airfield. We're all amateurs.........we've never skydived before! We are self funding the skydive so your donations go directly to the charity.

Our skydive team consists of:

Jason Jones, Bhuvan Kishore, Suchvinder Naga, Rajesh Govindarajan, Rakhal Dubey and Harpreet Kaur.

We're raising money for Ward 19 at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital which specialises in the cutting edge treatment of complex blood disorders including cancers of the blood and lymphatic system and in Stem Cell Transplantation.  We're raising money to purchase equipment that will benefit the patients and their families - making their stay more comfortable on Ward 19.

Ward 19 charity fund was started in 2011 by Dean Field.  In his time on the ward he noticed that there were many things that were needed to make patients time spent as either an in patient or out patient more comfortable.

Dean sadly lost his battle in November 2012 after achieving his target to raise enough money to purchase a blood analyser, which drastically reduced patient waiting times in Day Unit.

His wife Helen, along with the help of Sister Kathy Holder & consultant Dr Nikolousis (Manos), endeavour to continue with his great work.

The aim of the charity is to purchase equipment that will benefit the patients and their families making their stay on Ward 19 more comfortable.

So far we have provided -:

  • A new blood analyser which is in the phlebotomy room
  • Heat pads to help patients veins stand out
  • New trolleys in day unit so the nurses spend more time with the patient instead of having to go off and fetch dressings etc
  • All new electric recliners for patients receiving treatment in day unit
  • New chairs for visitors
  • A new couch for stem cell patients
  • A new booklet designed to be given to all new Bone Marrow Transplant patients
  • Sponsorship to set up a transplant support group to start in December.
Funds have been raised by staff, patients, families and friends in just some of the following ways:
Marathons

Dorridge Fun Run

Parachute jumps

Coast to Coast cycling

Coventry to Ireland cycling

London to Paris cycling
