Story
I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2017, swimming the distance of the Channel over 12 weeks to raise money for Aspire. Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently.
Since my father had an accident in 2015 that left him tetraplegic, I have seen first hand both the struggle for those with spinal injuries to regain their independence and what's possible with the right support. This swim will require me to swim 112 lengths of my local pool every week for 12 weeks. It will be a physical challenge, a logistical challenge, and potentially rather tedious but it represents to me only a fraction of the daily repetitive effort put in by those with spinal injuries (and those who care for them), and is a chance to raise money that I know will make a real difference.
