Story
Hello again everyone,
Firstly I want to thank all of you who donated to my Marathon attempt last year and let you know that we raised well over 5K and in total we've raised 11K in Dave's memory since he died in September 2007.
This time I've decided to walk and not run. The difficult bit is that it will be up the side of Mount Kilimanjaro. I'm completely cold adverse and have never slept overnight in a tent before so this could be the hardest 10 days of my life. I will try to remain glamorous like Cherly Cole but if anyone can recommend some really thick socks and thermals I'll be really grateful
There honestly isn't a single hour that passes when I don't think about Dave, miss him and love him just as much as I ever did and losing him so soon after we married just adds to the pain. What also saddens me is that a similar thing has happened to another 12 families a week in the UK alone. I feel so strongly that we need to do something about protecting against these often hidden cardiac conditions that shock and devastate lives.
Cardiac Risk in the Young work in many ways to support the bereaved and to advance medical understanding and screening for these silent diseases. You can never account for how it will feel to lose someone you love so dearly when they were so apparently healthy so if I can help to reduce and maybe even stop this happening then I will do it.
BREAKING NEWS: CRY have started a pilot in the North West to screen 14-35 year olds and I have been allowed to nominate 75% of all the money I raise specifically to this screening project. More than ever I need your help to make sure a regular screening event happens locally for as many young people as possible.
Thank you so much for your support.
Jen
