Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Sunday 22nd April 2012 I will be taking part in the Virgin London Marathon, running 26 miles in aid of Charity.
I have taken on this tough yet exciting challenge to raise funds for The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust, a UK based charity dedicated to providing riding therapy with donkeys to children with special needs and disabilities.
EST now has six purpose built centres across the UK (Belfast, Birmingham, Ivybridge, Leeds, Manchester and Sidmouth) enabling hundreds of children to visit every week for riding therapy.
Children are brought to the centre daily by their schools, families or hospital to take part in donkey riding therapy sessions using specially trained donkeys. The charity’s aims are to bring enjoyment and pleasure into their lives and to give them the satisfaction that comes with the achievement of learning riding skills.
Each centre also has a team of donkeys who visit schools, nursing homes, residential homes and hospices to provide their unique style of animal assisted therapy.
Donkeys are very affectionate and love meeting residents for cuddles or being talked to. They spend time in the lounge and will also visit bedridden residents in their rooms. These visits promote improvement in physical, social, emotional and cognitive functions, along with the widely recognised therapeutic impact they have on an elderly person's life.
All the services EST provide are completely FREE of charge; they do not receive any government aid and rely totally on donations from the public, companies and charitable trusts.
All money raised will go to The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust to help them continue their fantastic work.
So please dig deep and donate now.
