Story

So the majority of the below is still true, the only thing that went out the window was the Brighton marathon. Training has been atrocious, much sharing of bugs by my delightful children, excessive working hours and honestly a complete lack of confidence in my ability to do anything approaching running. I might not have run Brighton but today I did complete a marathon, solo and virtual! Please do consider sponsoring me every little helps!

For my 30th Birthday I ran the Brighton Marathon. I ran that marathon as a direct consequence of sitting in the consulting room of Miss Victoria Cohen at Moorfield's eye hospital and listening to her tell me I had a ciliary body ring melanoma and that the best course of action was the immediate enucleation (removal) of my left eye. Yes it was a bit of a shock (to say the least) but I was one of the lucky ones. I staggered round Brighton in April 2013, with my incredible parents keeping me company and promised I was only going to do one more marathon in my life for my 40th birthday.

Fast forward 9 years, it's my 40th next year and yes I'm registered for the 2023 Brighton Marathon. I wasn't going to run this one for charity (people who know me have had enough of reading this story) but then I find out that the very consultant who gave me that diagnosis, who I was priviledged enough to see only 3 weeks after anyone realised there was potentially anything wrong with my eye, had tragically lost her life to cancer. I found this out, found out the existence of the Victoria Cohen eye foundation and of course I'm going to try and raise some money for this incredible cause. It really could not be more personal!
