Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
I have been training for the last 3 months to run 2 races in aid of a charity called Study Guatemala. I managed to run the Swansea Bay 10k in 50.02 on 21st September which I was really pleased with! I also ran the Cardiff Half Marathon yesterday in 1 hour 47 and 37 seconds, narrowly missing out on my target time of sub 1h45. I was still really pleased with my time though, as I smashed my PB by over 8 minutes! All the training must have paid off! I struggled between the 8th and 9th mile, but got a second wind when I saw the welcome sight of the 10-mile marker and knew there were only 3 miles left! Thank you to all of you who have sponsored me so far. You really helped to spur me on when I was finding the going tough! If you would still like to sponsor me, there is still time as this page will stay open until January. Thank you for any support you can give!

I sit on the Board of Trustees for Study Guatemala and am closely involved with their work. Study Guatemala helps to provide education for some of the most disadvantaged children in Guatemala City, who otherwise would not be able to attend school. These children live in such poor and violent conditions in the sprawling “shanty towns” and many of their stories are heart-breaking.
.
Study Guatemala is currently renting premises in Zone 5 of Guatemala City, one of the most deprived areas of the city. In February, I was part of a group of volunteers who completed a gruelling 6-day volcano trek in Guatemala to raise enough money to purchase some land so that we can build the children their own, purpose-built school building as the existing one is in a bad state of repair and very overcrowded. After the trek, we went into the city and visited the children in the school and saw the charity’s work first hand. Owning their own building would also cut the monthly rental costs of the existing premises and help make the project more sustainable, with the money saved going directly to the children on school materials, other running costs and enabling the school to take on more children to sponsor through their education. The land has now been purchased and the building work is due to get underway in the very near future. This is a very exciting time for Study Guatemala, but as always more money is needed to help keep the project going and we would really appreciate any support you could give.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Study Guatemala gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you very much. Your sponsorship really will make a big difference to the children sponsored by Study Guatemala and their families.
Thanks,
Jess
