Flora London Marathon 2008 · 13 April 2008 ·

Did you know there are over 20 million people in the UK living with a musculoskeletal condition? That’s about a third of the population. We help patients by raising funds for research to improve Orthopaedic treatment, restoring mobility and giving people back their freedom and independence.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page, and for considering sponsoring  me. I will run the London Marathon on 13th April 2008 in aid of the British Orthopaedic Association's (BOA) Joint Action appeal. You may know me as Jo Hicks, through my work as  a Childrens' Orthopaedic Surgeon, or as Mrs Jo Gundle.

Half of us will need orthopaedic treatment at some point, and orthopaedic surgery can transform lives, but we would do much better with more research.

Joint Action funds a wide range of research projects into congenital and acquired conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system. Current projects include;

Improving the Outcome for Patients after Osteoporotic Femoral Fractures
[Broken Hips in the Older Population];
Implications of Metal Ion Release in Metal-on-Metal Implants [Total Hip Replacements];   Personal Impact of Disability in Osteoarthritis;   How to Manage an Achilles Tendon Rupture; Total Hip and Knee National Arthroplasty Registry for Malawi;   Outcome with Gait Analysis of Limb Preservation for Severe forms of Fibular Hemimelia  (congenital limb deficiency);    Driving Reaction Time After Shoulder Surgery

You can see how any of us could benefit from many of these projects - and if you or a relative have benefited from orthopaedic treatment, please consider making a donation. We still have a great deal to learn....

Donating through this site is quick and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the BOA will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support,

Jo

THANK YOU to all who have already donated - I finished in 3:41:30 so I am delighted with that, and to have been able to reach my fundraising target!
