Jing Min's Fundraising for HART UK

Fundraising for HART UK · 23 January 2019
Hi There!
My name is Jing Min, and I represent the charity HART on my university campus, Cambridge University. I first heard about HART through its annual Human Rights Essay Competition in 2017, and a few months later met Baroness Cox to talk about her work in advocacy and humanitarian aid through the organisation, and as a Peer at the House of Lords. I've been amazed and humbled by how the tiny team at HART keep their ears to the ground in the (currently) eight countries they work in, supporting local partners rather than attempting to do all of it on their own, to bring about more change in places that need as much as possible -- places like South Sudan, Myanmar, and Nigeria. I am encouraged to see how HART doesn't shy away from politically sensitive regions for the sake of political correctness; the team regularly embark on fact-finding missions to the countries they are active in, often having to dodge immigration restrictions and negotiate tricky political grey areas to do so. My objective as Student Ambassador is simply this: to get people to think about the lived experiences of those facing political, social and economic challenges in these countries, and to join HART in our effort to do what we can to help.
