Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page, created three years ago in memory of Joan Lowe.

The first anniversary of her death was marked by her family at a small ceremony at Blackpool Sands, near Dartmouth, a favourite place where they have all walked, picniced and sailed for many years.

It was a blustery day, nearing the end of the two months of storms that battered our coasts that year and we had no doubt that Joan's ashes were well and truly scattered as we poured them out into the waters of a stream running towards the sea.

It was Joan's wish that donations made at the service held at St Margaret's church at Olton on 26 February 2013 in celebration of her life should be given to the church or to Marie Curie Cancer Care.

You will see elsewhere on this page that over £1860 has been raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of Joan.  The real total is actually more because this page does not show donations sent direct to the charity by post, left in envelopes at the church after the service or sent to the funeral directors Thomas Bragg and Sons.  These amounted to £497 which makes a grand total of £2317.

Many of these donations would have had the benefit of Gift Aid which has the effect of adding an extra 20% at no cost to the giver.  I have no way of knowing exactly how much the Gift Aid total came to but £360 of it was raised on this page alone, raising the bottom line to at least £2677 - a magnificent sum!

The donations made to St Margaret's Church amounted to £874.  Joan's family and the Revd Jeremy Knapp agreed that the money should be added to an existing fund to help buy new vestments.  Just two weeks ago that decision became fact when the new green vestments were brought into use for the first time.

I wanted to let all of you who have been so generous to know how the money you gave so freely has been spent and this seems a good way of doing so.  Thank you all for your tremendous kindness and generosity.

This page will remain on-line and provides a good and easy way of making a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care to help them in their never-ending work.  All you need is a credit card and you can make your donation quickly and easily in the knowledge that it will go straight to the charity.  No need to write a cheque, and find an envelope and a stamp!  And if you are eligible to use Gift Aid, you can add 20% to your donation by simply ticking a box

I make no apology for this commercial.  Marie Curie Cancer Care is an excellent charity well worthy of your support so please continue to give to it, by donating on this page or any other way that suits your fancy.

Thank you again for your great generosity in contributing to Joan's page.
