Story

Welcome to my fundraising site and thank you so much for visiting.

I'm raising money for the MS Society and will be taking part in various events over the next year and organising a few of my own :)

***Update***

I held a mythical creatures themed party in April which was great fun and we raised £117

I took place in the Just Walk 10k across the South Downs in May dressed as a Panda!

I will be doing a Hula-hoopathon this summer somewhere in London

I will be trekking Machu Picchu in November 2013 for this very worthy cause which is close to my heart. The reason why this charity is so important to me is that both myself and my brother Chris suffer with relapsing remitting MS

What is MS?

MS is a progressive disease of the nervous system, for which there is no cure.

It affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, causing problems with muscle movement, balance and vision.

Each nerve fibre in the brain and spinal cord is surrounded by a layer of protein called myelin, which protects the nerve and helps electrical signals from the brain travel to the rest of the body. In MS, the myelin becomes damaged as the bodies own immune system attacks it.

Why this trek?

I am lucky enough to still be in a position physically where I will be able to complete this challenge (well, hopefully, and with a lot of training ) But the story is very different for the majority of MS sufferers, many of whom find that they are no longer able to even walk.

For me, this amazing opportunity to raise money for the MS Society means that I can help to ensure that more research is done to find new and effective treatments for this debilitating disease.

I urge you all to please dig deep and give anything you can. No contribution is too small (or too big ) and all proceeds will go directly towards helping sufferers improve their quality of life.

This trek is going to be incredibly tough for me. Between now and November 2013, I will relapse at least once if not twice. Each relapse can cause me to experience many different problems which can range from blurred and lost vision, vertigo, loss of balance and troubles with speech and cognitive functions.

Every time I relapse it can be an enormous struggle to complete normal everyday functions. It is always difficult to explain to the people around me what is wrong when one day I'm look fine and healthy, and then all of a sudden I deteriorate physically and can seem like a totally different person!

The unpredictability of this disease is one of the hardest things to deal with as you can never be prepared for what the next day may bring. I would be so grateful for anyone who takes the time and thought to donate to this worthy cause and ask once again to please donate what you can and to pass this on to all of your friends so that we all contribute towards helping aid the many sufferers of MS.

Thanks xxx Jo xxx
