Story
Hi Everybody - I'm so pleased to say that I made it to the Lake District!! I had a fantastic 5 days - it was incredibly exhilarating and I am really chuffed with myself. It was a long, long, way - particularly because it was just me cycling. Mum and I would meet at lunchtime for her to shove a sandwich at me and then I'd carry on. I was amazingly lucky with the weather - only Tuesday was bad and that mixed with a lot of tiny B roads to avoid Birmingham, Bromsgrove & Redditch made it an extremely long one - 9 hours 52 minutes and I ended the day in a dark, very wet place where I had to abandon my bike until the next morning and Mum came to my rescue. I saw and talked to a lot of wildlife along the way. I am happy to say that not a single vehicle got annoyed with me for slowing them down on hills (because I was determined to cycle up) and I had a lot of encouragement along the way from whoever I met.
Thanks so much to my Mum, Caroline, for supporting me, to Michael, my Stepfather for letting her go for a week, my brother Jonny for stepping in with the children and Mark for planning my route and believing in me.
Would I do it again? Ask me in a week or so ...
Thanks again to all of you who have sponsored me, and to those who haven't had a chance - here it is!
It was a very special week for me, culminating in the dinner in Shap where I was proud to announce to anyone who asked how I got there - "Who me? Oh I cycled from Oxford". I also felt very close to my Dad who was the reason why I chose to raise funds for the BHF - he died when I was 8 of an unexpected heart condition - "Thanks Dad for keeping an eye on me and helping with some tricky navigation at times".
