We‘re the world‘s leading cancer charity dedicated to saving and improving lives through research. We fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of more than 200 types of cancer through the work of over 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

Story

On little more than a whim, I've been talked into riding from London to Edinburgh for four days over the bank holiday weekend. It's 440 miles, and about 6,000m of ascent in total, which is higher than Mount Kilimanjaro! At this point it's hard to know whether there will be any skin left to sit on the saddle by the end, but I've got some really thick shorts.

But this is only the warm-up. The real charity event is in August, a short (!) 100 mile event. In further evidence of his enthusiasm for cycling, Boris is promoting the two-wheeled equivalent of the London Marathon. I'll be riding 100 miles through London along much of the Olympic road race route with 20,000 people. Given the time-limit I probably won't be doing it on a Boris Bike.

Despite survival rates doubling over the last forty years, in 2011 cancer was the largest cause of death in the UK. Cancer Research UK is the biggest single independent funder of cancer research in Europe.

It's easy to donate and every donation helps, so please dig deep.
