St Margaret of Scotland Hospice is based in Clydebank. The Hospice was the first in Scotland and has served the localities of East and West Dunbartonshire and Northwest Glasgow for over 75 years. Our commitment to dignity, respect and a truly holistic approach encompasses all that we do.

Story

Thank you for visiting our web page. Stuart and I (Simon) are cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End between May 29th and June 5th in aid of St Margaret of Scotland Hospice in Clydebank (www.smh.org.uk); we've called our site "End to End the hard way!" because we're going against the prevailing winds, on a ride we anticipate will be about 900 miles. We will be ably assisted by our support team, our wives Sarah and Maria, without whose support, tolerance and fabulous food we would already have packed it in. Of the four of us, three have lost a parent to cancer and St Margaret's Hospice provided respite care for a dear colleague and friend of mine, Helen Setchell, at the end of her fight against cancer last year.

While Stuart and I are both fairly experienced at endurance events, this one will certainly test us more than anything we've done before; as neither of us are particularly experienced cyclists and have never done a multi day event. We don't know quite how we'll react either to the challenge or to being in each other's company 15 hours a day! We're already off the booze and cycling over 200 miles a week so that must be worth a few quid at least. Assuming we can get digs each night with internet access we'll be compiling a blog (http://ssjogle.blogspot.com/) which, I hope, will give you a daily update of where we are and the events of the day. Of course it will also give you a chance to encourage or mock us as you see fit; and for those of you with a sadistic bent, you'll be able to track our decent into madness!

Please give as generously as you can, we would really like to raise at least a pound a mile in total.

Thanks a lot
