John Lee Fellowship Appeal

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is raising money for The Royal College of Ophthalmologists
In memory of John Lee
Donations cannot currently be made to this page
The College champions excellence in the practice of ophthalmology for the benefit of patients and public. We set the examinations and curriculum for medical graduates who wish to be eye surgeons and standards for professional practice. We have a role in promoting quality research.

Story

The eighth President of the College, Mr John Lee, died during his presidency, which was an enormous loss. The College intends to commemorate his outstanding contribution to the ophthalmic profession by creating a named Research Fellowship jointly funded by the Medical Research Council and the College. This is a particularly apt memorial for he was a strong advocate of academic medicine.

The first MRC/John Lee Fellowship has been awarded to Dr Peter Morgan-Warren.  His research will investigate the possibility of developing a molecular treatment to promote regeneration of nerves in the visual system following damage to the optic nerve.  News about the research can be found on the RCOphth website.

We our now collecting money for the second MRC/John Lee Fellowship.
