We provide care in Coventry & Warwickshire to people with a terminal illness aged 18+

Story

On Wednesday 21st February 2018, our much loved Dad and Dumpy passed away peacefully with his family around him at Myton Hospice Warwick.

Dad attended Mytons' day care for a number of years following a stroke. Knowing he was going to be under their care and watch for one day a week for a period of time gave the family great comfort. He had the upmost respect for the team there and would always comment on how good they were to him. He had many laughs with his friends at Myton.

After many years of being unwell on and off, 2018 started with the family being told that dad needed time in respite to give his body a rest-something the family knew he wouldn't like. Fortunately however, dad was very lucky to be offered a place at Myton Hospice as he was already a day care patient. This made it easier on dad and the family.

The family saw first hand, the fantastic work the team at Myton carry out. The care and attention given to dad was unbelievable, he spent time sharing stories of the family with the nurses whilst the family were not there with him. Dads best interests were at heart all of the time and both dad and the family were kept update with how he was doing every step of the way.

Unfortunately Dad took a turn for the worse a few days before he was due to come home. The team at Myton were 100% honest with dad and the family and ensured we had all the support we needed over the final days. There were no restrictions on visiting hours and as soon as we asked for anything, someone was there on hand. The care continued for dad but also started for the family with staff ensuring we were comfortable, well kept with refreshments and if we had any questions they were answered.

On the final evening, the family were offered the use of a family flat for the night or however long we needed it for. The flat is one of two available at Warwick and is offered to the families in most need. A fully equipped flat with all the facilities you could ask for and somewhere to sleep was given to us and not a penny was asked for to cover their costs.

As a family, we are so grateful of the services of Myton Hospice and for the environment given for our Dads passing.

In order to try and show our appreciation to the charity, we have decided to create a legacy for our dad and do him proud by raising as much money as we can for Myton and enabling more families to receive such care as ours has.

We therefore ask that you help us, in honour of Dad/Dumpy/Little John (or whatever else you knew him by!) by donating as much or as little as you can to our fundraising page. If you prefer not to donate online, you can always pass a cheque or cash to a family member who will arrange for your donation to be added to our running total.

The family plan to get involved with numerous events going forward. If you would like to get involved with us or have any ideas on ways to raise money, please let us know!

Thank you in advance.
