Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our Dad, John Brown Wilson, spent the last six weeks of his life at St Gemma's. He received the most amazing care and support and we will always be grateful. Without exception, the staff treated him with respect and kindness. They took time to talk to him, to help him in any way possible and to always share a smile.  He felt secure and comfortable and despite being so ill was able to relax, rest and reflect without anxiety and worry. With the support of the staff he never gave up the fight to get better; he enjoyed the fantastic food (particularly a wee bit of ice cream) and all the attention he was given. That care and support was extended to Ian and I who visited him daily and we were always warmly welcomed in those final few weeks.

St Gemma's provides vital care and support to meet the needs of people living with a terminal illness. They also support families, friends, children and young people through their specialist bereavement service. Their services are free of charge to patients, but not free to provide. Costs run at over £9 million each year and they can only continue through the generosity of their supporters.

The values of St Gemma's are to treat each person with kindness, empathy, compassion and respect. These values reflect those held by Dad and we cannot think of a more fitting way to remember and honour his memory than to donate to such a fantastic organisation.
