Jonny is running the Brighton Marathon

Brighton Marathon 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·
Thanks for visiting my page.
I'm running the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives and in 2019 one of those was my father-in-law, Chris, he died from having an OCHA, which stands for an *Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.
Sadly, on June 28th 2019 after an active morning and no signs that anything was wrong my father-in-law (Chris) was snatched from us. His sudden death has shaken my wife's world, shocked my mother-in-law beyond comprehension and even had A&E doctors in tears. He was a man with so much to give and taken too soon.
Chris gave the last 22 years of his life working and volunteering for the West Midlands Ambulance Service ensuring patients from across the region got to hospital for dialysis treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, blood transfusions - you name it he always went 'the extra mile' to ensure they had the life saving treatment they needed. So I'm going the extra mile... well the extra 26.2 to be precise in his memory to ensure even more patients live on as part of his legacy!
My wife (Holly) and her mother (Helen) set about raising awareness & crowdfunded for their rural community in Herefordshire (where my wife grew up, where we also married and where we christened our first child) to have a community defibrillator - if one had been there when Chris needed it this would probably be a different story. Chris's funeral donations went towards this crowdfunding and in January 2020 we started the new year with over £2000 raised to purchase and install a defibrillator, in his memory in the community where he lived and was loved. Holly & Helen had raised so much awareness that London Hearts reached out and supported with a further two defibrillators - all three defibrillators are now up and running in locations related to Chris' life but across the West, North and South of Herefordshire - what a legacy! His memory lives on and he stays in the community helping those when they might need it most.
I'm running to raise more money to help even more people across the UK stand a better chance of survival so others, hopefully, will never have to suffer the heartbreak in such traumatic circumstances as we have had to.
Thank you for your support and for reading!
Holly & Helen will be using their social media powers in the 'run' up to the event and using the hashtag #joggingforjoner so join me as I undertake this challenge.
