Update 24.04.2010

Hurrah! Thank you all once again. Thanks to one last car boot sale and counting up the collection pots, we've made our target! Just in the nick of time, because the deadline was today... Thank you so much to all of you, it was a big target to raise and we're so pleased we made it! The trip was amazing, and for anybody interested, there is a group on Facebook with some photos!

Update 27.04.2010

Thank you everybody who has donated so far. We have now had an amazing time on a successful trip, with photos now on Facebook, and soon to be on Flickr and elsewhere to prove it! We're so close to meeting our target, and are exceptionally pleased with how it all went. The bags aren't the most flattering of items to be strapped around your waist, but we managed it nonetheless!

Update 29.01.2010

We’d like to thank everyone who has continued to sponsor us –  we appreciate that January is not the best time to be asking for money and we appreciate everyone who has generously given.

Our training is still going fairly well, but someone decided to put Christmas in the way so went a little off track for a short while… We now have less than 12 weeks before the trek and are gearing up to start some much longer training sessions. The snow in January has helped however as Jeremy ended up walking the 6 miles each way to work, and Barry has upped his training regime at the gym as a result, and will soon be cycling to work...! We are also planning on undertaking a few 10+ mile hikes over weekends to get into the swing of things.

We’ve got a few more planned events, another car boot sale after the huge success of the last one. There will also be some more Tea and Cake mornings for those of you at TRL. If things get really tight, Barry might even attempt to make cakes for his work lot too. Theatre64 have also kindly offered to put our collection boxes out at the next production ( www.theatre64.org for details)

Update 07.12.09

Yes, I know updates should be sequential, at the bottom of the page, but I wanted to make sure people saw this without having to scroll down. A huge thank you to everybody for being so generous already, we're making really good progress so far. Thank you to the people referred via http://twitter.co.uk because they are effectively donating blindly, having no idea who we are personally and it is greatly appreciated.

So far, we have managed to raise £280 from a car boot sale, £200 from a quiz night, and £26 from afternoon tea's along with collection tins and general fundraising requests. We have some more events lined up, and progress is excellent all round thanks to you all. Also, an update to the weight loss, we're also over half way there! Between us we have lost 3 stone 5 pounds... which is a weight off our stomachs, as well as our minds...!

=====================================================================================

Hello everybody!

Many thanks for visiting this page. My brother Jeremy and myself are trekking around the Jordan desert raising money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice, in Hampstead. It will be 6-8 hours of hiking for three days in a row. Those of you who know us, will no doubt also know that we are currently in better shape for trekking across a dessert than a desert, so we are also committed to losing a combined weight of over 6 stone between us. Progress on that front so far has been pretty good, with over 1.5 stone gone in just over a month.

The trek is April 22nd - 26th, 2010. We have a large target to achieve for us to be able to take on this challenge, and because of the nature of the fund-raising, we need to have the sponsorship in place before the event takes place, so if you are thinking of donating, please please do not leave it til the last minute, or indeed after the event has taken place.

Cancer affects a huge number of people in the UK and this year has affected us personally – Its thanks to the likes of Marie Curie that has made the past year finish on a high rather than a major low. We’ve committed ourselves not only to raise the money for charity but also to lose weight and get fit – a huge task for the 2 of us!
