Story
St Luke's has been my favourite charity for years and I have been involved with as many fundraising events as possible. The jail break, head shaving and sky dive with the Lord Mayor are some of my favourites. Now this.......
Our Kilimanjaro challenge, taking place in March 2013 is aiming to raise over £60,000 for St Luke's Hospice Plymouth.
The group of 22 will are making it their mission to raise as much money as possible to support St Luke's in caring for people at the end of their lives from Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall.
The team will embark on their 11 day challenge on 13th March 2013, where their endurance and stamina will be put to the test as they make their way to the roof of Africa, a whopping 5,895m above sea level. The challenge will see the team walking an average of 7 hours a day before camping down each night on the slopes of Mt. Killimanjaro as they complete their challenge.
All money raised in support of the team will be donated to St Luke's Hospice Plymouth. St Luke's cares for over 3,200 people with terminal illnesses from Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall each year, offering specialist palliative care services at home, in the hospital and in the hospice. Each year it costs £6million to run the hospice, with only 32% funding received from the government, this means an annual fundraising target of £4.5million to maintain services at the hospice and continue to make a real difference to local people.
