Journeys By Bike
Our Trip:
Starting Sept 2010 we will cycle 18,000 miles from the Southern tip of South America to the most Northern town in North America. The ride will follow the course of the longest mountain range in the world the Andes in South America, the Sierra Madre in Central America and then Cordilleras/Rockies of North America. We will cross the Patagonian pampas and Tierra Del Fuego, the largest salt lake in the world (the Salar De Uyuni) and the driest desert in the world (the Atacama), the highest capital city in the world (La Paz in Bolivia - 3660m) and cycle mountain passes that rival Mtn Blanc at 4880m as well as Central and North America.
We will be self sufficient and we'll be carrying about 30 kgs of gear on our bikes, including tent, sleeping bags, stove, limited clothing, food and drink.
Our Charity:
We are riding on behalf of SOS Childrens Villages who provide a family for life for children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease and poverty. Over 78,000 orphaned or abandoned children are cared for by SOS mums in clusters of family homes in more than 500 of our unique children’s villages, in 124 countries around the world. Thousands more children benefit from SOS Children’s outreach support which includes education, vocational training, medical care and community development programmes. SOS Children also provides emergency relief in situations of crisis and disaster, and continues to support families in earthquake and tsunami-affected countries.
