Story

Hi, whilst enjoying our life in I felt I needed a sporting challenge. One that would get the adrenaline flowing again and would test me like most of the sports I’ve done.  Sadie suggested I should do what a lot of the Swedish population does and start running.  Each day we see the bridge that joins & , so the target was clear.  Run the bridge on the 10th anniversary of it being built with 30,000 other runners.

Now, I’m no runner, in fact I can remember hating it at school to the point where I always cheated at the long distance.  This is certainly going to be a challenge.

I started with my first run in November and have been training since, I initially wanted to just be able to run the whole distance (21K!). But now, as the day is getting close, I would like to run it in less than 2 hours - for a keen runner this is probably an average target but for a new runner it’s a reasonable challenge!

I also thought that completing this run would provide a great opportunity for me to make a difference elsewhere.  That is why I have chosen to run for charity.  My chosen charity is Wigan and Leigh Hospice whose aim is “to improve the quality of life of local people living with life-threatening illnesses, whilst supporting their families and carers. Patients are involved in their personal plan of care, which is tailored to meet their needs.”  The care provided by the excellent, dedicated staff really does make a difference to families during difficult times – regrettably I have friends who have had to make use of facility and they cannot speak highly enough of the support given by the Hospice.

I hope you don’t mind me asking you to make a donation to the charity but please feel under no obligation. I myself get many requests like this and will understand if you feel that this is not for you. However, if you can help me maximise the incentive for the event and raise some significant needed funds for Wigan & Leigh Hospice, I will be very grateful.
